Ana Torfs

In her slide and film installations, Ana Torfs explores the relationship between reality and fiction.

In her first major retrospective at K21 in Düsseldorf, the Belgian artist Ana Torfs presents not only earlier works such as BATTLE and DU MENTIR-FAUX, but also her latest pieces, including FAMILY PLOT #1 and DISPLACEMENT. In LEGEND, the viewer gazes, as through a telescope, at the idyllic landscape of the Canary Island of La Gomera and only upon closer inspection is confronted with colonisation, the oppression of the inhabitants and the Franco dictatorship.
