Andreas Bleckmann
Andreas Bleckmann was born in Münster in 1960. He began his career as a window display designer before moving to New York in 1984 to pursue photography. Since 1996, he has worked as a freelance editorial and advertising photographer in London. Since 2017, Bleckmann has lived and worked in Hastings on the south coast of England. There, he photographs local fishermen as well as tourists from London. The result is the series “Rock-A-Nore,” which explores the special relationship between people and the landscape.

Emsdettener Kunstverein
This exhibition at the Emsdettener Kunstverein marks the debut of Münster-born photographer Andreas Bleckmann, as well as the first presentation of a series of works created over the past five years in Rock-A-Nore, near his home in Hastings on the south coast of England.
Bleckmann’s photographic works form a visual study in which he intensively explores the representation of people. Intuitively, Bleckmann portrays members of the fishing community as well as visitors and passersby. In interplay with the coastal landscape, he explores the contrast between the deeply rooted permanence of the fishermen and the fleeting presence of visitors, embedded in the natural rhythm of the ebb and flow of the English Channel.
We met the artist at the exhibition for an interview.
