Andreas Schmitten (*1980 in Mönchengladbach) studied philosophy and art history in Düsseldorf and sculpture at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Hubert Kiecol and Georg Herold.
Schmitten develops sterile architectural hybrids drawing on urban references, model making and set design. He transforms windows and shop fronts into sculptural stagings that mark a human absence. Coloured fabric arrangements meet high-gloss or matt artefacts reminiscent of everyday objects as well as works of art history.
IKS visited his solo exhibition at Sammlung Philara, Düsseldorf (13.04.–16.06.2019).
