Marcel Broodthaers

Marcel Broodthaers (*1924 in Brussels, †1976 in Cologne) developed an idiosyncratic, critical position in the context of Pop, Minimal and Conceptual Art. Coming from poetry, the Belgian artist turned to visual art at the age of forty.

With his installations, films and institution-critical works, he quickly gained great recognition in the European avant-garde.

IKS visited the major retrospective MARCEL BROODTHAERS with more than 400 works at K21 of the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen (04.03.–11.06.2017), developed over four years together with the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid.
