Matthias Wollgast (*1981 in Bonn) studied fine art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and subsequently at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. He lives and works in Düsseldorf.
A central theme of his work is the dependence of art on its context and the constant revaluation of cultural values through history and reception. A single motif may appear as a cameraless photograph, as a reproduction on a postcard, in an artist’s book or as part of an installation – his works refer to one another and are placed in ever new contexts.
In 99 seconds, IKS presents his solo exhibition at Galerie Rupert Pfab, Düsseldorf (2016).
