Havîn Al-Sîndy was born in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and graduated in 2019 as a master student from the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart. She lives and works in Germany and Kurdistan and teaches as a professor at the HBK Braunschweig.
In drawing, painting, performance and installation she explores memory and its reconstruction, belonging and displacement. She often works in a process-based way and together with young people, using materials such as earth, clay and paper that preserve knowledge beyond conventional archives.
In 2023 IKS visited her exhibition Ein Bild von einem Tor (A Picture of a Gate) at Neuer Kunstraum, Düsseldorf. The multi-part work brings together two places that lie far apart geographically and asks what happens to architecture that has to be abandoned.
