HEINZ MACK / Light – Movement – Colour
The German artist Heinz Mack (b. 1931) is regarded as a co-founder of the internationally influential ZERO group and as one of the leading avant-garde figures of post-war modernism. He gained national and international recognition for his experimental light reliefs and the groundbreaking Sahara Project, which is now regarded by art historians as one of the earliest examples of Land Art. Our media archive contains an extensive collection of historical and contemporary source material on his entire body of work, including in-depth interviews, studio photographs and exhibition documentation dating back to the 1970s.
A central component and highlight of this archive collection is the documentary film ‘HEINZ MACK / Light – Movement – Colour’ by Ralph Goertz and Werner Raeune. The production deconstructs the multi-layered creative process, the sculptural practice and the process-oriented exploration of light and space in Heinz Mack’s work, and makes these accessible to art-historical research through audiovisual means.
