Max Beckmann




Max Beckmann was a German painter, graphic artist, sculptor and author. Beckmann took the painting of the late 19th century as to how the art historical tradition of forming an figurative style, which he opposed in 1911 the emerging irrelevance. Old master craftsmanship and classic variety he shows since the first World War in complex glazes of painting and sharp graphics. The modernity, notably Pablo Picasso and Cubism Beckmann attempted oppose extended dimensionality. Heinz Berggrün called Max Beckmann the most important German artists of the 20th century besides Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. (Source: wikepedia)
