Cornelius Völker (*1965 in Kronach) studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1989 to 1995 under A. R. Penck and Dieter Krieg. Since 2005 he has been professor of painting at the Kunstakademie Münster.
Lighters, leaves or lips, hearts or hands – as diverse as his motifs are, his lively, vividly coloured style of painting is unmistakable. Völker shows familiar, everyday objects in a new light and repeatedly turns things that are hardly considered worthy of painting into his subject.
For the format “IKS meets”, Isabel Hernandez visited the retrospective CORNELIUS VÖLKER at Kunstpalast Düsseldorf (31.08.2023–07.01.2024), with 85 paintings and 50 works on paper.
