Timm Ulrichs (*1940 in Berlin) calls himself a “total artist”. From 1972 to 2005 he taught as a professor at the Kunstakademie Münster.
Self-taught, a lover of language and a humorous provocateur, he repeatedly makes himself available as material in his cross-genre conceptual works and asserts the compatibility of art and life. Language is often his fundamental tool: his works play with tautologies, paradoxes and ambiguities and address transience, remembrance and self-staging.
IKS visited his exhibition Vorspiel – Nachspiel (Prelude – Postlude) at Sammlung Philara, Düsseldorf (12.03.–16.05.2021).
