Julia Bünnagel

Julia Bünnagel (*1977 in Haan) studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1998 to 2006 under Tony Cragg and Hubert Kiecol, whose master student she became. She works as a sculptor, installation and sound artist.

She calls her work “KlangBildHauerei” (sound sculpting), because sculptural and physical actions generate sound. Her works move between installation, typography, music, object and action; as a DJ she mixes modified records – sawn, painted, glued – into rhythmic soundscapes. Since 2011 she has been part of the collective “Sculptress of Sound”.

IKS visited her exhibition Nebensonne at Galerie Rupert Pfab, Düsseldorf (15.01.–05.03.2022): an intermedia installation of modified records, light, sound and objects.
